How to Earn More Money

Looking to make some extra cash? Try out some of these ideas below 🙂

1. Sell Things You Don’t Need

Facebook marketplace is one of the best places to get rid of stuff you don’t need. Anything that you haven’t used in the last year or two, sell! It takes two seconds to put up an ad on marketplace and if you put a reasonable price is doesn’t take long for someone to jump on the offer. Selling things for small amounts could all add up in the end, so rather than throwing things away see if you can make some money and declutter your life at the same time.

2. Ask for a Pay Rise

Another way to earn more money is to ask for a pay rise at your current job. Have you been performing well, or providing extra value to your current workplace? You may be able to use this to negotiate a higher salary or at least work towards one. Showing you provide extra income to the business could highlight that you deserve a raise.

3. Find a Second Job

It may not be possible to increase your income at your primary job, so it might be worth looking for a second job. If you are trying to reach a saving goal or pay off debt, getting a second job on nights or weekends may help you to reach that goal much faster. You could try and pick up some extra hours on week nights and weekends by working at a bar, maybe babysitting or something else outside your primary hours. This is probably not a long term option as working too many hours a week for a long period of time will most likely leave you feeling burned out. Life is also there to be lived and there is no point in having extra money if you don’t have the time to spend it.

4. Create a Side Hustle

Have a hobby outside of work that you could potentially turn into an income generating idea? Is there something that you are good at that people would pay you to do? Create a side hustle! This could be providing a service like lawn mowing, coaching etc, or maybe selling a product on eBay or creating a shop on Etsy. The possibilities are endless and if done right could help supplement your income or even better yet allow you to transition your side hustle to your full time job. Chris Guillebeau has written a great book on getting a side hustle started called “Side Hustle: From Idea to Income in 27 Days ” and also has a podcast called Side Hustle School. If creating a side hustle seems interesting to you it may be worth checking these resources out for some inspiration and guidance.

5. Use Apps to Make Money

There are a few apps available on the app store these days that can help you make extra money. For example, Air Tasker is an app that allows you to complete jobs for people for money. This can be anything from assembling furniture to completing resume’s. If you have a certain skill set people are looking for this could be a very handy app for you to make some extra money. Other apps include Hire Up, which allows you to work with people with disabilities, or Mad Paws which allows you to dog sit other peoples pet’s.

There would be many more apps out there, this is only the beginning. Have a google and see if you can find one that suits your interests or skills.

6. Complete Survey’s and Participate in Market Research Groups

There are a few online surveys around that you can complete for either money or gift cards. While these probably aren’t going to pay as well as picking up a second job, if you have a long commute to work or some down time, these may give you the opportunity to make a bit of money during this time. Some examples of online survey sites include Swagbucks, Survey Junkie, Pure Profiles and Octopus Group.

If you find these are taking up too much time for what they are worth, you may also be interested in participating in market research groups. Research Connections and Country Opinions are two agencies that will have groups of people give feedback about a variety of different things. They usually take up 1-2 hours of your time but may provide you with anywhere from $50 up to a couple of hundred dollars each time.
